Do I need to resize images for my Shopify store?
Wondering if you need to resize images for your Shopify store? The answer is a resounding NO!
Image Resizing
Shopify's powerful image APIs handle resizing automatically. Unless you're using a very old theme, you don't need to manually resize your images. Your theme utilizes these APIs to crop and resize images according to the user's device (mobile, tablet, desktop), ensuring optimal display.
If you're using an older theme and experiencing image issues, consider updating to a newer one or contacting your theme developer.
What format should I use, JPG or PNG?
It doesn't matter, but if you need transparency, you must use the PNG format.
Shopify's CDN now serves images in the WEBP format by default. WEBP offers superior compression and quality, resulting in smaller file sizes and faster loading times. So, whether you upload PNG, JPG, or another format, Shopify will try to serve it as WEBP.
Always upload the highest quality image possible, including product images, and Shopify will handle the rest.
Note: Shopify has a limit for image uploads. The maximum allowed dimensions are 5000x5000 pixels, and the maximum size is 20 MB. Usually, images with dimensions of around 2000-3000px are ideal.
Important: Avoid using low-resolution product photos (with dimensions less than 500px). This can create issues with cropping and display, making your images appear distorted on collection pages.
