Help with improving product photos on PDP

Hi Alvin,

I hope you're doing well!

I’ve noticed that many other webshops are using product pop-ups and carousels to display their product images in a more engaging way on the product detail pages (PDP). I was wondering if you have any suggestions or know how I can improve the product photos on my PDP, especially to include features like pop-ups or carousels.

I’ve attached some example screenshots for reference. Do you know how I can best integrate this into the Dawn Pro theme?

Hi Max,

Dawn theme has already a setting to use a thumbnail gallery for the media gallery on the PDP.

For the full-screen gallery, it has also support for it but it might not be as fancy as having thumbnails on it, like your screenshot. A good plugin for it is this one

but it requires you to buy a commercial license. If you decide to use it we can help you directly on your store to set it up.

Also, it is worth searching for a good app which might be some on the Shopify app store like this.

Thanks for your fast response! The issue is that I’d rather not pay for an app that slows down my store and ties me into unnecessary monthly costs. It would be much better if I could set this up myself.

The example I sent was created with Flickity, and I was wondering if it's possible for you to help me create a similar product page carousel like the one in the example I shared.

Also, if you're able to create this, would it be possible for you to sell it as a theme feature? The default options in Shopify for this type of carousel are really not great, and I think this could be a useful addition for other stores as well.

Hi Max,

Yes, I agree with you, there is no need to pay monthly fees for it.

So to understand you want to change the whole gallery on the product page or just the full-screen one? Honestly, the product gallery currently is not bad and the thumbnail option is working as expected, i wouldn't recommend that we change it because that is tied up with the product form and other parts of the PDP (it needs to be updated on variant change).

So, for the full-screen gallery on our themes, we are using this free plugin

If you are interested we can help you set it up. The touch they offer on mobile view is great, but it lacks thumbnails, in my opinion, they are not needed as they will not show up on mobile view anyway.

This should give you a clear idea of the product page carousel I’m aiming for.

Hi Max,

So i'm checking your example but as i said the main product gallery on the Dawn theme is already like that as you can see from the screenshot below.

As for the gallery that appears as full screen screen when you click on the main image, Dawn theme as already one, but not with thumbnails as you mentioned. A free alternative that we can help you to set up is this one right here.
